Everything you need to get started with Speedrun
Getting started
Install the Chrome extension, then open Speedrun from the toolbar or side panel while viewing a supported page. On YouTube, you can also use the Speedrun buttons that appear on video thumbnails.
Speedrun works without an account. When you choose a video, article, PDF, or X post, it creates a written summary, narrated audio, and a slideshow you can watch or listen to.
Features
- Narrated slideshows: Read the summary, watch the generated slideshow, or continue listening in the background.
- What viewers said: YouTube summaries can include a synthesis of public comments so you can understand the discussion around a video.
- Time saved: Compare the original content length with the generated summary and track your listening statistics.
- Share links: Share a summary with anyone. Recipients can view it without installing the extension.
Frequently asked questions
What content does Speedrun support?
Speedrun supports YouTube videos, web articles, PDFs, and supported X posts.
Why does Speedrun ask for permission to read a page?
Chrome requires your permission before the extension can read an article or PDF on a new website. Speedrun requests that access only after you explicitly choose to summarize the current page. It does not continuously collect your browsing history.
Why does a YouTube video say "No captions"?
Speedrun needs a usable transcript. Captions may be disabled, unavailable in a supported language, or still being generated for a newly uploaded video.
Do I need an account?
No. Speedrun creates a random anonymous device identifier in Chrome storage to save your preferences, history, and usage statistics.
What data does Speedrun process?
Speedrun processes the content and metadata of pages you explicitly choose to summarize. See the Privacy Policy for the complete details, including storage, retention, and third-party services.
How do I clear local Speedrun data?
Remove the extension or clear its data through Chrome's extension settings. Reinstalling the extension creates a new anonymous device identifier.
